? Doña Marina Flores Gutiérrez de la Caballería became an influential and prominent women of early Nueva España, particularly following the death of her husband in 1531. As matriarch of her small family in Nueva España she expanded her influence by making careful matrimonial alliances between her daughters and prominent conquistadors. In time, she became the matriarch of one of the three most politically powerful extended families of Nueva España in the sixteenth century.
