Most of the Renauds in the United States are descended from the French
settlers of Canada, and thus most of the well known Renaud families are
are located in the northern states. But, a smaller, yet sizable, Renaud
population exists in the southern states. The ancestors of these
Southern Renauds came to America from France and settled in the cities
of the Gulf Coast -- New Orleans, Louisiana, and Brownsville, Texas.
One such immigrant Renaud was Louis Phillipe Renaud, who settled
in Brownsville in 1851.
Louis Phillipe Renaud is listed as Louis Renault in the 1860 census.
His family lived in Brownsville, Cameron Co., TX.
His occupation in 1860 is listed as Farmer. Estimated value of
real estate was $2,000; personal property was worth $2,500.
In 1870, his occupation was listed as (difficult to read): Lockraider,
Hockraider, or perhaps, Stocktraider (Stock trader?).
