Note: Poet Baltasar del Alcazar (1530-1606), in his poem “CENA JOCOSA”, Oxford, Clarendon Press wrote about Lope de Sosa and his wife Ines, and that they lived in Jaen.
Lope de Sosa and his wife Dona Ines de Cabrera were originally from city of Cordoba, Spain.
Lope served as the acting Governor of the Canary Islands, and later he was appointed Governor of Tierra Firme, Castilla de Oro, Old Panama.

In 1530, his eldest son, Don Juan Alonso de Sosa, was appointed Royal Treasurer of Nueva Espana. While in Mexico City, Juan Alonso was married to Dona Ana de Estrada, the daughter of the former Royal Treasurer, Don Alonso de Estrada and Dona Mariana Gutierrez Flores de la Caballeria.

This is the FIRST recorded Sosa in the New World.
